GRADES 4–5 · LESSON 2
Story Recipe Card
Write a recipe card for a story, then see if the AI follows your recipe.
By the end of this lesson you will have — one story recipe card with 4 rules, and one short story checked rule by rule
What you'll show at the end: Your story recipe card with 4 rules (who, where, problem, ending), a short story made from it, and a check or a cross next to each rule.

Under 13? Use a parent's account, with your parent sitting next to you.
Follow these steps
- On paper, make a story recipe card with 4 rules: WHO is in the story, WHERE it happens, what PROBLEM happens, and how it ENDS. Use made-up characters, not real people.
- Copy your 4 rules into the Say box. Then write your guess in the Predict box and lock it: how many of your 4 rules will the AI follow?
- With your parent next to you, open Google Gemini on your parent's account (or a Family Link account your parent set up for you). Copy the box next to these steps, fill in the [ ] parts from your card, and paste it in. No AI today? Use the sample answer on this page.
- Read the story. Put a check next to each rule it followed and a cross next to each rule it broke. Write it down or take a screenshot.

Starting fresh? No card yet? Use this sample card: WHO = a shy robot named Pip. WHERE = a library on the moon. PROBLEM = all the books float away. ENDING = Pip catches the last book.
