Regression Model: Find the Pattern in a Practice Table
How does AI predict a number instead of a category?
By the end of this lesson you will have — one simple regression model (a model that predicts a number) plus one graph
What you'll show at the end: A scatter chart with the trendline and its equation showing, plus your prediction for y when x is 10.

Follow these steps
- Open a new Google Sheet (under 13: use a parent's account, with your parent next to you; a Family Link child account set up by a parent also works). In column A, type "x" and the numbers 1 through 8. In column B, type "y": 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48. These are practice numbers made up for this lesson, not real-world data.
- Select both columns. Click Insert, then Chart, and choose "Scatter chart." In the chart editor, open Customize, then Series, and check "Trendline" — that line is your model.
- Under the trendline settings, set "Label" to "Use Equation" so the equation appears on the chart (it looks like y = mx + b). Use it to predict y when x is 10.
- Stuck or curious? Copy the question from the box next to these steps into the AI you're allowed to use (under 13: a parent's account, with your parent). When your line and graph are done, take a screenshot and show a friend.
