πŸ“– Reading Passage

Octopuses are some of the smartest animals in the sea. They have eight arms, three hearts, and blue blood. Each arm has small cups called suckers that can taste and touch things at the same time. An octopus can use its arms to open jars and solve tricky puzzles. Scientists have watched them find their way through complex mazes. They can even recall the correct path weeks later, which shows strong memory.

One cool thing about octopuses is how they change color. Tiny parts in their skin can turn red, brown, white, or yellow in less than a second. They use this skill to blend in with rocks, sand, and coral so that predators cannot spot them. Some octopuses also change the texture of their skin. They can make it bumpy like a rock or smooth like sand, because matching both color and feel creates a better disguise against hunters like sharks.

Octopuses are also great at escaping. Their soft bodies have no bones, so the only hard part is their beak. This means they can squeeze through any hole bigger than that beak. In tanks, they have climbed out, crawled across the floor, and snuck into other tanks to grab food. Because they are so clever, many scientists study them to understand how being smart can look so different from the way people think. These animals show us that brains come in many forms.
